Ich habe die Suchfunktion genutzt "kompilieren" da habe ich aber nirgendswo den Befehl zum kompilieren von proftpd mit mod_ifsession gefunden. Ich bin Unix-Anfänger und habe noch nie etwas unter Unix kompiliert.

Versionen:
proftpd 1.2.5rc1
Debian 3.0 woody

Was muss ich machen um proftp mit mod_ifsession zu kompilieren? Sollte ich auf die neueste Version updaten oder reicht proftp 1.2.5rc1?

Mach es so wie in der Datei INSTALL angegeben, die im tarball enthalten ist plus die Anpassung wie hier beschrieben: --with-modules=mod_ifsession

Nachdem ich es jetzt versucht habe hab ich ein paar Startschwierigkeiten:

Ich habe das Tar-Archive runtergeladen und entpackt. Dann hab ich meine alte Version on proftpd gelöscht.

Code:

./configure  --prefix=/usr/sbin  --sysconfdir=/etc --with-modules=mod_ifsession
make clean
make
make install


So habe ich das Programm kompiliert und installiert. Das funktioniert auch alles ohne weitere Fehlermeldung. Leider wird proftpd nicht installiert. Wenn ich "whereis proftpd" zeigt er mir nicht an wo es installiert ist. In /usr/sbin ist auch nichts zu finden.
Starten kann ich es auch nicht und bei "proftpd -vv" findet er proftpd nicht.

Was mache ich falsch?

Und statt whereis probiere mal find / -name proftpd -print

wieso meinst Du denn dass es nicht installiert ist ? Was ergibt denn
"proftpd -l" ?

 Du rufst das falsche auf. Dein ProFTPD ist in (da Du Prefix falsch verstanden hast) in:

/usr/sbin/sbin/

also

/usr/sbin/sbin/proftpd -l
