Video Card

Due to superior Linux driver support, TransGaming currently recommends that you use Cedega with an NVIDIA GeForce class video card. Pixel shaders are only available on NVIDIA FX class cards and above.

Cedega will also work with ATI Radeon 8500 or better cards using the proprietary drivers available from ATI. Please note that the ATI drivers may have bugs or be missing features in some core functionality, causing some games to have errors, graphical anomalies or may simply not work with Cedega.

Other on-board video cards such as Intel and S3 video cards will run some games through Cedega, but many will not run or crash due to bugs or missing functionality in the drivers.

Older cards such as the TNT, TNT2, Radeon 7500, Rage Pro, Voodoo, Matrox or similar cards are not recommended for use with Cedega.

Remember; the better your video card, the better your gaming experience.

Getting Cedega

Cedega is available in the download section at www.transgaming.com. You must be logged in and have an active subscription to be able to download Cedega.

Choosing and Installing Your Package

Cedega comes in three different package types; rpm, deb and tgz. Some additional Linux components may need to be installed to use Cedega. You will need to ensure that all dependencies are installed prior to installing Cedega. Packages must be installed as root.

Using Cedega

First Run

On first run users are presented with the Cedega Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard will guide you through installing the Cedega engine as well as the optional Cedega components and determining if your system is ready to play games. The core components of your computer will be automatically detected and a battery of tests will be run to ensure that the best gaming experience will be had.

It is highly recommended that you have an active Internet connection for this stage.

Please refer to the if you run into any errors during the setup wizard or the system tests.

Installing a Game

Installing a game through Cedega couldn't be easier. Simply insert the disc and press the install button to start the process. If the game is a supported title, click the Detect Game Disc button and optimal settings will be used. For unsupported games simply enter the Game Folder name and browse for the installer executable (usually setup.exe or install.exe) from the game disc. Click continue and follow through the installation instructions that came with game you are installing.

Installing an Update

Updating a game or installing an expansion pack can be just as easy. Open the installation dialog and select the Game Folder of the title you wish to install the update to, use the browse button to select the installer executable and click continue. Follow the installation instructions for the update/expansion.

Playing a Game

To play a game select the Game Folder and Shortcut then click the Play button.

Removing a Game

To remove an installed game select the game folder and select Tools -> Game Folders -> Delete

Configuring Cedega

With the introduction of Cedega 5.2 game settings have moved to a layered method. Settings come from a combination of three layers the Global Settings, a GDDB file and any per-shortcut settings that may be applied.

Global Settings

Cedega options can be modified using Edit -> Global Settings. Settings are applied to all games played unless overridden by the GDDB or using the per shortcut settings.

Game Disc Database (GDDB)

Supported games have a games disc database entry that include the best known settings for both installation and play. The GDDB settings are applied on top of the global settings and take precedence. GDDB settings can be disabled by selecting None in the GDDB field in the installation dialog or the shortcut properties dialog.

Per Shortcut Settings

Per shortcut settings can be modified by right clicking and select "Edit Settings for this Shortcut" or through the shortcut properties dialog (Edit Settings). The shortcut settings are applied on top of both the GDDB and global settings and override all other settings.
